VC for AAUA Security Agencies Over Rescue of Akungba Regent

From the information reaching us on The vice Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has commended the Info State Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of the abducted regent of Akungba, Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon.

Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun also thanked the people of Akungba Akoko, staff and students of the University for maintaining the peace and displaying a high level of maturity throughout the trying time.

The VC gave the commendation on Thursday while speaking with the Information Unit of the University in his office.

Prof. Ajibefun, who was obviously excited about the rescue of the regent said, “The On do State Government has done a lot. We are grateful to the Info State Government for the support given to the security agencies to succeed in carrying out the rescue operation. I want to express the heartfelt gratitude of the university to the security agencies. They have done very well by maintaining the peace within Akungba and the University communities, and ultimately rescuing the agent and other people.

” I am also grateful to our staff and students for maintaining the peace throughout the challenging period. Members of staff and students displayed a very high level of maturity. I thank the people of Akungba Akoko for their cooperation. ”

Prof. Ajibefun, who described the incident as embarrassing and barbaric, thanked God that nemesis eventually caught up with the kidnappers.

The VC noted that the successful rescue of the monarch has made a loud statement that On do State is a no-go area for kidnappers and all criminals.

He advised members of the University community to continue to go about their duties diligently. He urged staff and students to be vigilant and be wary of rumour and always ensure to ascertain the veracity of information from the appropriate quarters of the University.

Prof. Ajibefun added, “Our staff and students must be vigilant and security conscious at all times. They should report criminals and suspicious people to the University Management or the security agents.”

The regent was abducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, on her way to a public function within the state and was rescued on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, by a combined team of Department of State Security, DSS, the Army and the police.

While wishing the students success in their on-going examinations, the VC said the Matriculation Ceremony for the new students, which was postponed following the abduction of the regent two weeks ago, would hold at a time to be announced later.
