UNN Senate Makes New Decision For Overstay Students

RE: COMMITTEE ON OVERSTAYED STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERISITY OF NIGERIA.

The University of Nigeria Senate at its 373rd meeting held on February 26, 2014 considered submission by the University Administration on overstayed students and granted reprieve on all cases of overstay for the on-going 2013/2014 academic session. In so doing, Senate decided to set up an Ad-Hoc Committee to work out the modalities/conditions for the implementation of the new dispensation.

The Vice-Chancellor considered the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee and approved the following recommendations on behalf of Senate:

 

  • 1. Students who have completed their programmes successfully, but whose results have not been processed as a result of overstay should be allowed to graduate immediately after paying the prescribed levy;
  • 2. Students who have outstanding courses must complete such courses for possible graduation this academic session (2013/2014)
  • 3. All category of overstay shall pay administrative/overhead levy of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30000) only into University of Nigeria, First Bank of Nigeria Account.

  • 4. All payments/registration of outstanding course(s) must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 17, 2014 before registration of courses;
  • 5. Registration of courses shall be don in triplicate using the Overstay Course Registration Form, obtained from the Faculty Offices of respective Faculty. This must be duly certified by the Head of Department.
  • 6. Senate waved the minimum credit units for registration of courses in a semester.
  • 7. Affected students must present the original payment receipt and duly completed overstay form before being eligible to write any examinations.
  • 8. Courses which have been phased out due to the existence of new programmes shall be mounted once more for the purpose of implementing Senate decisions on overstay, this academic session (2013/2014).

You are requested to take all necessary steps to implement the above decision of Senate.

With effect from the 204/2015 academic session, all cases of overstay shall be handed by the Registrar, as provided by the extant Undergraduate Academic Regulations of this University.
