SAT Exam gets New design

DAYTON, Ohio (Examsguru) – New changes were announced to the Scholastic Aptitude Test.  In 2016, the exam will take three hours instead of three hours and 45 minutes.  There will be more non-fiction passages than fiction.  Multiple choice questions will have four possible answer choices instead of five and the essay will also be optional.

The architects of the new SAT say the exam will get closer to the common core state standards.  That is a set of learning designed to make sure high school students will be ready for college level courses.

For years, there have been complaints the SAT gives unfair advantage to certain student populations.  This change is expected to help close that gap, getting rid of language that can confuse under served students.

“A really common example of that is students who didn’t know what a regatta was or didn’t have a crew team”, says Sarah Brewer, a college counselor at The Miami Valley School, a college preparatory  in  Washington Township.

The SAT revision team wants the questions to be more reflective of a student’s every day course work.  Brewer advises even thought the test is changing, students still need to be prepared by knowing the order of the questions asked and how to pace themselves.
