Project Engineer Job Summary

  • The Project Engineer oversees mechanical/process engineering activities associated with Gaslink’s Power and Gas Infrastructure development projects.
  • The position incumbent is responsible for developing the project scope and costing for civil/electrical/mechanical/process work related to construction effort, and develops specific project plans for ensuring objectives are realised within time, budget and project specifications.
  • Each sub-team’s work programme and costing scenarios are fed into the overall construction programme after due synchronisation and approvals.

  1. Provides needed specialised mechanical/process engineering support to the Project Manager with respect to the identification of design issues, operational risk, and the resolution of attendant issues.
  2. Provides input for the development of integrated mechanical/process engineering blueprints and plans for the gas & power construction models.
  3. Specifies the facilities required to assure the mechanical/process integrity of gas & power system for existing and future operations and works with the Project Manager to ensure all necessary features are captured in designs and blueprints.
  4. Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management.
  5. Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; reviewing bids from contractors.
  6. Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  7. Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  8. Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
  9. Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  10. Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions.
  11. Controls project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts.
  12. Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
  13. Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  14. Maintains project data base by writing computer programs; entering and backing up data.
  15. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  16. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  17. Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  18. Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  19. Interact daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  20. Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
  21. Assign responsibilities and mentor project team
  22. Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  23. Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions
  24. Keep an eye on all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements
  25. Interpret clients’ requirements
  26. Identify engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented
  27. Evaluate, organise and prioritise workload within a schedule
  28. Liaise with third party contractors to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose
  29. Take responsibility for a team of engineers
  30. Collaborate with the Senior Engineers to create more efficient methods and maintain profitabilit
  31. Develop the specifications for all equipment that is required for each project
  32. Create the framework used to develop and monitor project metrics and manage the collection of project data
  33. Formulate realistic parameters for each project, including design elements and implementation procedures
  34. Establish the methods by which all field tests are administered and develop various ways to monitor the quality of those tests

  • A degree in relevant Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Metallurgical & Material)
  • Professional Certification shall be an added advantage.
