Niger Govt Earmarks N594.6 Million for New University

The Niger Government has earmarked N594.6 million for the recruitment of staff into its new University of Education in Minna.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Mohammed Yahaya, made this known at a news conference in Minna on Thursday.

Yahaya said that the money would cover the salaries of 302 teaching and non-teaching staff as well as six management staff.

He said that the institution would commence after the approval of its programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The commissioner said that government had released N19 million for the upgrading of facilities and improvement of environmental issues on the campus in readiness for NUC’s visit. (NAN
