LASU Appeals To Staff Unions To Resume Work

The crisis at the Lagos State University (LASU) seems to have been brewing for some time as lecturers and other staff members had continued to stay away from work.

To this end, authorities of the Lagos State University (LASU), on Thursday, appealed to its staff unions to return to work, in the interest of the students.

This call was contained in a statement released by the school, on Thursday.

“The continued closure of the Lagos State University over the last eight weeks, as a result of the face-off between the university management and staff unions is an unsavoury situation, doing nobody any good.

“As the university management, we have been unrelenting in finding an amicable solution to the contending issues, if not for any other reason, but for the sake of our students, whose academic pursuit has been hampered by the imbroglio.

“As a management, we can only keep appealing and leaving all options open to resolve the crisis, while we hope that fair reasoning prevails and the school returns to normalcy in the coming days,” the statement read.

The institution had remained closed, following a prolonged dispute between the management and the staff unions who demands include the resignation of the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Obafunwa.

After a meeting last week between the students and the management, May 18 was announced as the resumption date.

As at the time of filing this report, lecturers and other staff members had continued to stay away from work.
