FG to Focus on Primary & Secondary Health
Latest nursing updates reaching us it that the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole, on Wednesday said changes in the health sector that will benefit Nigerians would resolve around scaling up of primary and secondary health systems in the country.
He made the promise when he resumed at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, along with the Minister of Sate for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Amina Shamaki.
The new minister is a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, and is also former president of the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer, among others.
Adewole further stated he is not unmindful of both the inter and intra professional acrimony in the health sector, he said they all need to work together as one person is more important than all professionals and that is the Nigerian citizen either as a healthy or sick person.
“There are quite a number of restructuring that we need to do. We will need to look at how to work with the secondary and primary health care systems because the tertiary tier is not all that we need to promote and bring good health at the door step of our people, so we need to work with the state and local governments,” he said.
